Friends of The Children

pioneering Mentoring Model ... based on the most promising research available.
Mission:

Friends of the Children provides full-time, paid, professional, mentors -- called Friends. FOTC is a long-term mentoring program focused on children from communities hard hit by economic decline, random violence and inadequate schools

FOTC intervenes early -- when children are in kindergarten or first grade -- and guarantees each child will have a mentor for twelve years. A Friend is assigned eight children of the same gender and spends an average of four hours per week with each child during and after school, on weekends, and during school vacations. The goal is for all FOTC children to graduate from high school and continue their success in college and in their communities.
