Nuru International is a social venture dedicated to fighting the greatest humanitarian crisis of our generation: extreme poverty.
Nuru's mission is to eradicate extreme poverty by holistically empowering rural communities to achieve self-sufficiency and inspiring the developed world to confront the crisis of extreme poverty.
Nuru is a Kiswahili word meaning light (Kiswahili is the language of the Kuria people).
Nuru mentors local leaders in the principles of service leadership to mobilize their community into groups. Together they identify the factors contributing to the cycle of extreme poverty in their community.
Nuru's Research Team scours both the social and private sectors to identify the most effective interventions in five areas of development:
• Water & Sanitation
• Community Economic Development
